We’re hosting the Oceanias!
Badminton Geelong has been selected to host the 2024 VICTOR Oceania Championships and the Pacific U17 Invitation Team Challenge.
The major international tournament offers players opportunities to qualify for the Paris Olympics and world team championships.
The VICTOR Oceania Open Individual Championships will run from February 12 to 15 while the VICTOR Men’s and Women’s Team Championships will follow from February 16 to 18.
The tournament will attract around 200 players and support staff from the 17 member nations of Badminton Oceania.
Being held simultaneously is the Pacific under 17 training camp from February 14 to 15, followed by a Team Challenge from February 16 to 18, exposing promising juniors to international badminton

Badminton Geelong President Peter Brown said the association was honoured to have been awarded the rights for the Oceania Championships and Pacific U17 Team Challenge 2024.
“This fantastic event has such a rich history within the Oceania region and the Geelong Badminton community cannot wait to be a part of it,” Brown said.

Badminton Geelong Manager Naman Bhardwaj said he was excited to host the twin events.
“This event will improve Badminton Geelong’s visibility on an international level and its legacy will re-ignite participation of the sport in the local community.”

Academy has seen increased patronage by school
groups during the year.
More than 20 regional schools and campuses have utilised
our facilities, many seeking the assistance of the
Academy’s qualified coaches. ‘On campus’ coaching has also been provided.
Badminton Geelong has announced that it will now offer a new tier of membership for 2024 tertiary students for just $35. This is in addition to the current junior, adult and senior memberships.
Badminton Geelong goes festive

Badminton Geelong will be part of this years Festival of Sport, run by the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust.
To be held on Sunday December 10, the Festival offers a jam-packed afternoon of free family fun and entertainment, prior to the Melbourne Renegades taking on the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash.
Badminton Geelong participated in a smaller scale event at the final home game for the Geelong Cats in AFLW, with more than 70 people having a go at badminton.
Any badminton lovers who enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for the game are welcome to volunteer at the festival.
Great Gretta

Geelong ladies from the Monday morning ladies comp enjoyed a successful outing at the 2023 Atalanta Jamboree Ballarat in October.
Gretta McKenna won the Betty Shaw Perpetual Award for the fairest sportsperson at the tournament.
The Geelong Crows D3 team went through their section undefeated, winning all four of their matches.
The team included Louise Woolsley, Gwenda bell and Vanessa Juresko, along with two ladies from Adelaide, Cheryl Taylor and Aileen Ramly.
Louise and Gwenda also came runners up in the individual D grade event.
