Jacob is going to the Worlds

Ocean Grove’s Jacob Schueler has been selected in the Australian men’s team to contest the Thomas Cup, world men’s teams event, in China next month.
Australia recently won the right to represent the Oceania region at both the 2024 Thomas Cup Finals and the Uber Cup Finals, the world women’s team competition.
The TotalEnergies Badminton World Federation Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2024 will be held in Chengdu, China, starting April 27.
Badminton Australia CEO TJ Weistra congratulated all the selected players.
“After incredible performances during the qualification stage in Geelong, we are excited to see our teams go that one step further in the finals,” he said.
New Wednesday night format proves a hit

Wednesday night badminton will prove to be popular if the initial night of a new format is any indication.
A new competition for Badminton Geelong members was introduced with team spots rapidly filled.
The new Wednesday night competition is a mixed event, including both singles and doubles matches, aimed at providing variety, challenge and fun for all players.
Five three member teams will play an initial six week season, with one team on a bye each week, culminating with two weeks of finals.
The competition will run in conjunction with the usual Wednesday night social sessions.
A total of 38 players participated across all six Badminton Geelong courts plus four courts in Branch stadium. Additionally, several beginners joined in, along with two para players from our Tuesday para coaching, extending our commitment to inclusivity.
Membership is growing, with 10 new memberships received last night alone.
Badminton Geelong management will consider adding additional alternatives to the current sessions on offer.
Our Snowpeak shuttles are set to fly even further

Those Snowpeak shuttles that just seem to turn up on court when you play actually represent a growing part of Badminton Geelong.
Shuttles are provided to competition and social players, while casual and court hire players have the option to purchase Snowpeak shuttles by the tube or individually.
The shuttles are part of a business developed by Badminton Geelong whereby we become a supplier of the Snowpeak brand. Sales are being made to other associations and clubs around Australia.
A website to promote Snowpeak shuttle sales is under development.
Geelong para-players win state selection for nationals

Three Badminton Geelong Para players have been selected to the Victorian state squad for the National Para championships.
Michael Simpkins, Brooke Holt and Alex Mckewan (pictured above) have been in training for several weeks in preparation for the event.
Victoria will field two teams and our representatives have been selected in Victoria Orange.
The Para-Badminton Australian National Teams and Individuals Championships will be held in Altona from May 3-5.
News from the Board:
Works: Improvements to the player lounge and office area are continuing. A new ceiling fan has been installed and new tables and chairs are next on the refurbishment agenda.
First aid: Please be aware that there is at least one First Aid person on duty during all social and competition sessions. All staff have completed a first aid course. The name of the first aider on duty will be displayed on the TV Board. This is your go to person for any medical needs/injuries. Professional development: Naman recently attended a professional development camp in Canberra and we are excited to see him implementing and sharing his expertise within Badminton Geelong.
